Dear Mr. Ed Fye,
First of all, I would like to let you know that this letter of
thank you was planned
before we even received your letter yesterday. You were one of
the very first people I
thought of as our hearts started loosing their numbnes and we thought
of all the people
that had such a big impact on Lisa’s life.
I will never forget how exited Lisa was when she came home from
your camp last
summer and telling us she had never learned so much before at a camp
and couldn’t say
enough good things about you. She was thrilled when you told
her she could go to the
camp in GI with her brother, Jason and sister, Lindsay after attending
Doane’s.
Right there in the corner of her top dresser drawer and also
in her gym bag were
the little notes she kept on High Jumping Camp and all the steps.
I would like you to
know how much she hated highjumping her Freshman year and how she almost
didn’t go
out for track that year until the day of the meeting she decided she
couldn’t let her
teammates down. With Mr. Bridges’ encouragement she did start
highjumping and
somewhere, somehow she fell in love with it as it was something she
could improve
herself on individually. After she attended your camp and had
jumped 5 ft., her personal
best, she really developed a passion for highjumping and so looked
forward to this year.
Lisa’s #1 goal for her Junior year was to break the school record
and in my heart I
know she would’ve done it, because that’s the way she did things, set
her mind to it and
worked on it until she did it. Can you believe the very first
day of Basketball practice in
November, she came home and said, “I need to have someone work out
a weights
program for me for Highjumping.” I remember shaking my head and
laughing, saying
“Lisa, first things first.”....Oh how we will miss our girl.
We also won’t ever forget
her excitement just probably about 3 weeks ago when she said Mr. Bridges
had seen you
and you had asked how Basketball was going for Lisa. She couldn’t
believe YOU had
asked about her. I wish you could’ve seen & heard her expression.
Ed, when we received your letter yesterday we really realized
just how much this
lovely daughter of ours had made an impression on the lives of others
too--we never
would’ve dreamed how much. We thank you so much for the “Lisa
Garrett T-shirt
Award” to the person who shows the most heart & dedication towards
their goals and the
free admission to a track camp you will be offering other young people.
We will be
honored helping with the selection of that person from our area.
Your letter and generous offer really touched our hearts.
We can’t begin to thank
you enough. But most of all we want to thank you for making such
a huge positive
impact on our daughter’s life and also thank Mr. Bridges for introducing
her to such a
wonderful caring person.
Sincerely,
Bill & Shelli Garrett
